'Everything I do Is for my family"

Sandy Tenorio:

Sandy was raised up in Nicaragua. His family had a small house and they had to share it with 8 siblings and their mom. He never had a real father figure. He stated that he was always hungry due to the fact that they had limited food in Nicaragua. He also wanted toys and regular clothes which was something that also wasn't plenty in Nicaragua. Sandy Is a father of 2. He has 2 boys named Isaiah and Aaron. Aaron Is 18 and Isaiah Is 14, Sandy loves his 2 kids with all his heart. He always do anything he can for his kids.

He felt very scared when he was crossing the border. It was hard for him to talk to people in the U.S because no one spoke spanish. He was one of the top students and was very smart due to Nicaragua teaching higher level education at a younger age. The teacher helped him a lot by being kind to him. He went to Cal Fullerton but chose work over college after.

Life In Nicaragua

When he was 12 years old, the area he lived in was war ridden and he had to leave because his mom didn't want him to be drafted. He had to cross illegally because his country wasn't giving out Visas. He came to the U.S by plane travel, but it wasn't easy. When he got to the airport in Mexico, his plane had already taken off, so he had to buy tickets to catch another one."It was very hard on my mom not knowing how I was and where I was She had a nervous breakdown." It took one month for him to get to the U.S. because of so many delays.

The Light at the end of the tunnel

Now he is one of the most successful businessmen in his company. He Is the only Latino in corporate. He has come far In his hard journey, he went from a child dreaming to support his family and live in the U.S to being very well respected by everyone and being the hardest working person anyone will meet.

The Root of the Tree

The store Sandy Is standing In front of used to be his first job. The job got removed and turned Into a Northgate but he will always remember this site as his first job.

Forever Grateful

This Is Sandy and his Ex wife Ruth. They are good friends. They have always gone through similar hardships and gone through It together. Sandy Inspired Ruth to get her citizenship officially. They still talk and learn from each other. They will always remember what they did for each other and each others journey.

Family through bad and good

Sandy and his family still do things together. "No matter what happens we will always be a family.' That Is how Sandy feels about the love between his family. They always hangout and have fun together. Everyone understands that love comes in different forms not just official love.

Some personal lessons I learned was I learned more about my dad and mom's life. They shared stories and new emotions I've never known. I've gotten a lot closer with my dad because of this project. It's Important to listen to stories about immigrants journey because you always have to be open minded no matter what. If you open up your mind then you will able to look past someone's skin color or someone's ethnicity and get to know the real them. When I was searching for some historical context I found a article from the 80's. That article was the exact story my dad had told me. It was amazing because I was looking at my dad's life and I could imagine him the way the article explained how everything went down. My dad still lives In the history and I could read it for myself.

About the Author

My name is Brae, I am 14 years old, born on December 28th, 2004. I was raised up in the small town of Rowland Heights. I have a brother that lives with me, my mom, and my dad, and my sister is at the Navy right now. I currently go to Alvarado Intermediate School. I am in eighth grade and I will be entering high school soon. I hope to go to Rowland High School. I'm a person who likes to work hands-on and I don't really care for office-type jobs. I would like to work on houses (such as an electrician) and automobiles. The reason these things interest me is because I have been around people who work on houses and automobiles, and it has always just interested me.

Immigrants define what America is known for, being a free country. They have a bad reputation, but if people heard their stories, people would probably empathize with them. I think it is very important to listen to the stories of the immigrants because sometimes they can be interesting and emotional. One thing that stood out to me the most is that migrating is hard for them, both physically and emotionally.
