Author Profile (Ivy Lu)

Hi, My name is Ivy Lu. I'm 13 years old and I go to Alvarado Intermediate school. Alvarado Intermediate s located in Los Angeles, Rowland Heights. I'm currently in 8th grade and I will be going to 9th grade this April. I'm also an immigrant that came from Taiwan. I came from Taiwan, Taoyuan, a city that just below Taipei. This story wasn't very special or interested, but this this may be the life that most people wanted. A life that is simple, don't have much obstacle. Life in a different country can be very difficult.

You will have to leave your family behind, learn new culture, language.

I think that it's very important for people to learn about the journey of immigration. People sometime will judge other by their opinion, which isn't right. The immigrant that is new to the country knows zero language, they have no job. I think the reason to know immigrant's story is to understand people from their story, not judge base on the look of it. I learn in this project about the condition of people at border. That the government did not make their promise come true. I use a lot of research information, detail and writing. Writing is probably the hardest for me, I'm really bad at grammar. So, I will have to spend extra time to do the writing. This is also the first time that i interview someone. This interview is quite well, better than what I expected. This interview is just like a chat will friends, very simple, but also meaningful. I also learn the hard work that my parent did when they first came here.

Author Profile (Ethan Chien)

Hello, my name is Ethan C. I am currently 13 and I go to Alvarado. I currently For careers, I am planning to become a programmer, hopefully a businessman like my dad. I take interest sometimes, in novelism when gaming is not an option. I haven't thought much about college/university, mainly because I am blind to the difference and what it offers. I can say that I may or may not be spoiled but it's a good thing.

Immigration shaped America the same way slaves did. A democratic government does not seem to be very stable. If everyone is rich, they will not feel rich. America exploits the poor, allows them to work for near no money at all just like slaves. It is important to hear the general story of immigrants. They are all the same, unfairness, discrimination, war, poverty, government, etc. These stories teach you that the immigrants go through a lot to get a good life. I contributed to this project with my "amazing" skills of journalism. I did NOT contribute any social skills since I was not the interviewer. For personal lessons I cannot say I did. I do know that others have perseverance, but unless I face the same challenges, this will never apply to me.
